This year’s Australian Hemp Health and Innovation (HHI) Expo and Symposium is expected to build on the success of last year’s inaugural event.
80+ exhibitors will be showcasing a wide range of products including clothing, bedding, building materials, beauty and personal care items; as well as medicinal hemp preparations.
As with last year, 2017’s event will incorporate a symposium featuring clinicians, researchers, activists and industry representatives.
Among the speakers is Ben Oakley, who we’ve mentioned quite a few times here on Hemp Gazette. Mr. Oakley suffers from Stiff Person Syndrome – an incredibly painful and debilitating condition that has been relieved through the use of medicinal cannabis products.
Recently, Mr. Oakley met with Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and left quite an impression, inspiring Mr. Shorten to urge Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to accelerate availability of medications in Australia – which looks set to happen (to a degree)..
Also speaking will be Anastasia Suraev, a Research Associate at The Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics. Ms. Suraev was recently involved with a survey that revealed a high proportion of Australian diabetes sufferers are self-medicating with cannabis. Ms Suraev is also coordinator for The Lambert Initiative’s PELICAN research study.
Medical cannabis activist Jenny Hallam will also be speaking at the symposium. Ms. Hallam hit the headlines recently after South Australian police raided her Adelaide home; seizing supplies of cannabis oil that she provided to people in need at no charge (among those receiving it was Ben Oakley).
Other invited speakers include:
- Viola Brugnatelli – Neuroscientist
- Klara Marosszeky – President of the Australian Industrial Hemp Alliance
- Garyn Angel – Founder & CEO of Angel Enterprises, Inc
- Martin A. Lee – director of Project CBD
- Robert C. Clarke – Author, Ethnobotanist, Plant Breeder & Agronomist
