Dasheeda Dawson, a cannabis strategist and former government regulator, has announced The State [of] Flower Tour, a multi-state initiative designed to foster conversations and collaboration across the fragmented sectors of the cannabis industry. This program aims to address critical aspects of cannabis industry development, including policy, business, and workforce training, according to a report by Ganjapreneur.
Launching in Summer 2026, the tour coincides with the release of the fourth edition of Dawson’s workbook, How to Succeed in the Cannabis Industry. The initiative seeks to connect policy leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, and community members through a series of workshops, discussions, and community activations.
Addressing Fragmentation in Cannabis Industry Development
The State [of] Flower Tour is positioned to bridge existing gaps within the expanding cannabis sector. Dawson noted that the industry has developed in disparate segments, and the tour’s objective is to integrate these components. The programming is designed to facilitate:
- Fireside conversations with industry leaders and policymakers.
- Educational workshops focused on business operations and regulatory compliance.
- Facility tours providing insights into cultivation and processing.
- Networking events for professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs.
- Job fairs to support workforce development within the sector.
The tour’s structure aims to create direct pathways for education, entrepreneurship, and community engagement, particularly for individuals and communities historically impacted by cannabis prohibition.
Regulatory Context and Workforce Initiatives
The tour arrives as states continue to navigate the complexities of cannabis legalization, workforce development, and equity program implementation. The accompanying workbook, How to Succeed in the Cannabis Industry, includes new content relevant to the current regulatory landscape, such as insights into the post-rescheduling era and an expanded chapter on cannabis regulation. This focus aligns with ongoing discussions regarding federal reform and its implications for state-level markets.
Dawson, who previously led cannabis regulatory offices in New York City and Portland, Oregon, also serves as Co-Founder and Board Chair of the Cannabis Regulators of Color Coalition (CRCC). Her background informs the tour’s emphasis on equitable access and opportunity within the industry.
Geographic Scope and Strategic Collaborations
The State [of] Flower Tour will commence in New York, proceeding through New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. Additional stops are planned for Florida and Nevada, with the final event scheduled in Philadelphia in partnership with Black Cannabis Week 2026.
The initiative is being co-developed with Veronica “Vee” Castillo, a cannabis journalist and advocate, and Fame Neal, co-founder of Exhale Social PRO. These collaborations are intended to enhance the tour’s reach and content, particularly in documenting the diverse perspectives and experiences shaping the cannabis industry development across various regions.
