US Industrial Hemp Fibre Enters India’s Textile Supply Chain Through New Partnership

US-based Panda Biotech has partnered with Culturewell Trading LLP to introduce industrial hemp fibre from the United States into India’s textile supply chain. This collaboration aims to meet the rising global demand for sustainable, traceable, and certified raw materials in textile manufacturing. As previously reported by Hemp Gazette, this initiative marks a significant step for US hemp in international markets, connecting growers and processors with a major global textile hub.

Meeting Demand for Sustainable Textile Inputs

India’s textile sector is a major global powerhouse, producing a wide array of products including yarns, fabrics, denim, garments, technical textiles, and home furnishings for leading international brands. This industry is currently under pressure to shift towards greener inputs. Global buyers and brands are increasingly demanding greater transparency, a lower environmental impact, and verified sourcing across their supply chains. This creates a clear opportunity for materials like industrial hemp fibre, known for its environmental attributes.

Under the new agreement, Culturewell Hemp will serve as the authorized importer and distributor for Panda Biotech’s US-grown industrial hemp fibre within India. The partnership seeks to establish a consistent and reliable supply pipeline for high-performance fibre, suitable for integration into various textile applications and product lines.

Bridging Market Gaps and Scaling Adoption

Company officials state that this collaboration is designed to address a key market need: reliable access to scalable, consistent, and certified hemp fibre that meets stringent export-grade standards. Dixie Carter, President of Panda Biotech, noted that Indian textile manufacturers are actively seeking fibres that can compete globally on quality, price, and sustainability. She added that Culturewell’s established local distribution network is expected to help accelerate the adoption of industrial hemp fibre across Indian mills, according to Textile Excellence. This direct access is crucial for integrating new materials efficiently.

The initiative is structured around three core principles:

  • Combining Panda Biotech’s mechanically processed hemp fibre with Culturewell’s extensive distribution and market reach across India.
  • Focusing on scaling the adoption of industrial hemp fibre within India’s diverse textile ecosystem, from small mills to large manufacturers.
  • Addressing the growing demand from international markets for globally compliant sustainable fibres, providing a verified eco-friendly option.

Certifications, Traceability, and Economic Advantages of Industrial Hemp Fibre

Each shipment of industrial hemp fibre under this arrangement will carry OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and USDA BioPreferred certifications. These certifications are intended to build confidence among export-oriented manufacturers and global buyers, ensuring the fibre meets recognized environmental, safety, and bio-based content standards. Such third-party verification is increasingly important in global trade.

Traceability is another critical requirement for textile exports, particularly as international brands tighten their supply chain regulations. Panda Biotech’s fibre offers end-to-end traceability, allowing manufacturers to verify the origin and processing of their materials from field to factory. This transparency supports ethical sourcing and environmental claims.

Furthermore, US-origin hemp fibre processed in India may qualify for export-linked advantages in certain markets. This could provide Indian manufacturers with a competitive cost benefit compared to suppliers sourcing from other regions, such as Europe and China. The companies also highlight the strong sustainability narrative associated with certified, low-impact fibres. These materials are becoming essential for brands targeting environmentally conscious consumers who prioritize eco-friendly products.

This partnership provides Indian textile mills with a new, certified, and traceable supply option for industrial hemp fibre. The move indicates a broader industry shift towards sustainable materials capable of meeting both commercial demands and the increasing compliance pressures in global markets, fostering a more resilient and environmentally responsible textile sector.
