Regulated marijuana sales in the US state of Missouri picked up in July, and a recall of thousands of products has very recently been announced.
Sales of adult-use marijuana products reached $108.58 million in July, up from $104.94 million in June. This was just short of the record – $108.68 million in March this year. Medical sales also saw an increase last month, up from $14.64 million in June to $15.01 million in July. The Missouri Department of Health and Human Services notes monthly sales numbers should not be considered final as numbers may shift due to system reconciliations
As well as sales, active patient registrations saw an uptick last month; from 114,115 to 115,178. At its peak in November 2022, there were 205,897 active registrations in Missouri’s program.
The first legal medical marijuana sale in the state was in October 2020. The first licensed sales for adult/recreational use occurred in February last year. As has occurred in many other states where adult use marijuana has been made legal, the availability of recreational products resulted in a fall in medicinal sales (and patient registrations). While July saw an improvement, it was still a far cry from a peak of $40.26 million in December 2022.

In other cannabis news out of Missouri, earlier this week the Division of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) issued an alert to patients and consumers about a mandatory product recall involving thousands of flower, ground flower and pre-roll products from one source. According to the DCR, testing of the recalled products prior to being sold was not up to scratch.
“The recalled marijuana product was tested at the unprocessed bud/flower stage rather than being tested at the final marijuana product stage as required by 19 CSR 100-1.”
While the DCR states no adverse reactions associated with the affected products have been reported to the Division at this point in time, consumers who have purchased them should discontinue use and discard or return them to the dispensary facility where purchased. The DCR notes returned products will not count toward a patient’s purchase limit.
The list of recalled products can be found here.
Also in Missouri, last week Governor Michael Parson announced he had issued an executive order banning the sale of foods containing psychoactive cannabis compounds.
