Hemp Foods Australia Scores Coles Deal

Hemp Foods Australia’s new Functional Seed Mix range will soon be appearing on supermarket giant Coles’ shelves across the country.

On Wednesday, Hemp Food Australia parent  Elixinol Wellness said it had secured distribution of its new line more than 800 Coles stores nationwide.

“To secure national distribution with Coles for our new Seed Mix range is an exciting progression for Hemp Foods Australia and means that our brand can now be found on the shelves of Australia’s two largest supermarket chains,” said Felipe Favaro, General Manager, Hemp Foods Australia.

In October last year, the company also secured nationwide distribution with Woolworths for its certified organic Hemp Gold Seed Oil.

The Functional Seed Mix range combines hemp seeds with other fruit, nut and seed formulations. The line includes the Protein Boost, Antioxidant, Gut Health Support and Omega seed mixes.

Hemp seed is a true “superfood” – high in protein, vitamins and minerals, fibre and beneficial fatty acids, but low in bad fats.

“Hemp is not only good for you, it’s good for the planet. Hemp draws more carbon from the atmosphere than trees!” said Mr. Favaro. “We look forward to helping people eat more healthily and in good conscious knowing it’s aiding in the battle against climate change.”

The company notes a hectare of hemp, which reaches maturity in just 90 days, captures approximately ten times as much CO2 as a hectare of pine trees that take 20 years to reach maturity.

Hemp Foods Australia, situated at Bangalow in Queensland’s Byron Bay hinterland, has been involved with hemp since 1999. The firm has been working with hemp suppliers from around the world since 2011; primarily those in Australia, Canada and China.

The company claims to be one of the largest hemp food wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers and exporters in the Southern Hemisphere. Its 660 square metre processing facility in Bangalow is HACCP/GMP, BRC, and organic certified.

As for Coles, it has been gradually expanding the number of hemp products on its shelves. At the time of writing, 15 products were listed on Coles Online, including HFA’s new range. Other products include hemp seed oil, hulled hemp seed and personal care products.
