Planet 13 Expands Medical Cannabis Concentrates Production in Florida
Planet 13 Holdings Inc. has received approval from the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) for its butane hash oil (BHO) extraction facility. This regulatory development enables the company to expand its offering of medical cannabis concentrates within the Florida market. The approval, announced on May 19, 2026, marks the completion of a significant infrastructure investment for Planet 13’s Florida operations, positioning the company to serve a broader segment of the state’s medical cannabis patient population.
OMMU Approval and Facility Capabilities
The OMMU approval allows Planet 13 to produce a full range of medical cannabis concentrates. According to a report by Cannabis Business Times, Robert Groesbeck, Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of Planet 13 Holdings, stated that bringing this facility online is a “significant milestone” for the company’s Florida strategy. He noted that it enables Planet 13 to participate in “important product categories” previously less accessible.
The newly approved facility is an approximately 3,465-square-foot purpose-built laboratory. It is designed to support the production of various BHO concentrate formats, including:
- Badder
- Shatter
- Crumble
- Sugar
- Sauce
- Diamonds
In addition to these formats, the facility will also produce Live Resin Disposable and C-Cell vaporizer cartridges, broadening the selection of medical cannabis concentrates available to patients.
Market Access and Operational Impact
This approval positions Planet 13 to serve the entire Florida medical cannabis concentrates category. Headset market data indicates that Florida’s concentrate segment generated approximately US$125 million in retail sales over the preceding 12 months. Planet 13’s participation in this category within Florida was previously limited, making this approval a key factor in expanding its market share.
Groesbeck highlighted that this “structural improvement” is anticipated to drive margin expansion for the company and provide patients with a more complete product selection. Products from the new facility are expected to be available at Planet 13 Florida dispensary locations in the coming months, pending individual product approvals from the state regulator. This operational enhancement aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the Florida medical cannabis market by offering a comprehensive suite of products to patients.
