Louisiana’s ongoing medical cannabis dispensary expansion has progressed with the opening of a new NOLA Cannabis Co. location in Harvey, on the West Bank. This facility marks the fifth dispensary for the New Orleans metropolitan area, with a sixth location reportedly in development on Bourbon Street, according to a report by NOLA.com.
Expanding Patient Access in Louisiana
The new NOLA Cannabis Co. dispensary, located at 1544 Manhattan Blvd., is part of a network operated by two distinct investor groups, H&W Acquisition Company LLC and Crescent City Therapeutics, under a unified brand. These operations are managed by an arm of Good Day Farms, one of Louisiana’s two licensed cannabis cultivators. H&W Acquisition Company LLC acquired the former Walgreens building in 2024 for US$3.4 million to establish the new site.
Louisiana’s regulatory framework, as established in 2022, granted 10 medical cannabis retail licenses to pharmacies, with each operator permitted to run up to three locations. The NOLA Cannabis Co. brand consolidates two of these regional licenses, facilitating broader patient access across the New Orleans area.
Program Growth and Patient Pathways
The state’s medical cannabis program has experienced significant growth, with patient enrollment more than doubling over the past two years. As of early this year, nearly 150,000 Louisiana residents were enrolled in the program. Patients can obtain a medical cannabis recommendation, the official term for a prescription, from licensed physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical psychologists. This includes consultations conducted via telemedicine, further streamlining access for eligible individuals.
NOLA Cannabis Co. dispensaries facilitate this process by offering direct connections to online telehealth providers. These providers can assess patient needs and issue recommendations, often within a short timeframe, supporting the continued medical cannabis dispensary expansion and patient engagement.
Retail Operations and Product Offerings
The new 14,500-square-foot dispensary in Harvey provides a comprehensive retail experience. Services include in-store purchasing, online ordering, delivery options, and a drive-thru service for patient convenience. The facility operates from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
Products available to patients with a valid recommendation encompass a range of medical cannabis formats:
- Cannabis flower
- Pre-rolls
- Gummies
- Concentrates
- Tinctures
- Vapes
These offerings aim to provide diverse options for patients within Louisiana’s regulated medical cannabis program, aligning with the objective to provide safe, reliable products at various price points.
