Modern Canna Expands Cannabis Quality Solutions with Strategic Investment in CannaGuard PRO

Modern Canna, a provider of cannabis and hemp quality solutions, announced in May 2026 a strategic investment in CannaGuard PRO™, a manufacturer of an EPA-registered disinfectant platform designed for commercial cannabis and hemp operations. This investment integrates facility sanitation into Modern Canna’s existing suite of services, enhancing its comprehensive offering of cannabis quality solutions.

The decision to invest followed an extensive evaluation process by Modern Canna, which assessed CannaGuard PRO’s scientific validity, ease of integration into standard operating procedures (SOPs), and its role within a broader contamination prevention framework. The company stated that it moved forward as an equity investor after this multi-phase review.

Expanding the Modern Canna Quality Ecosystem

Modern Canna’s investment in CannaGuard PRO adds facility sanitation to its established Quality Ecosystem. This ecosystem is designed to provide operators with an integrated, end-to-end partnership for identifying and mitigating risks throughout the production process. According to Andrew Fernandez, Director of Client Relations & Business Development at Modern Canna, the company applies the same scrutiny to recommended products as it does to its own services.

The Modern Canna Quality Ecosystem now encompasses five primary pillars:

  • Laboratory Testing: Accredited analytical testing for cannabis and hemp, focusing on scientific rigor and data transparency for compliance and product quality.
  • Software Solutions: Proprietary technology platforms for managing quality data across operations.
  • Compliance Consulting: Expert guidance for establishing and maintaining regulatory frameworks.
  • Risk Mitigation Services: Proactive identification and management of contamination risks, operational gaps, and quality vulnerabilities.
  • Sanitation Solutions: EPA-registered disinfection services through CannaGuard PRO™, now the official sanitation solution within the ecosystem.

J. Brian Leapard, M.S., Head of Innovation & New Markets at Modern Canna, noted that quality begins within the facility, encompassing SOPs, surface cleanliness, and sanitation practices. The investment in CannaGuard PRO is intended to provide clients with a complete solution, from cultivation to certificate of analysis.

CannaGuard PRO’s Role in Commercial Operations

Modern Canna evaluated CannaGuard PRO based on criteria applied to its own services. CannaGuard PRO is a patented, EPA-registered disinfectant specifically engineered for commercial cannabis facilities. Its formulation is non-corrosive, non-caustic, and non-reactive, designed to dry without sticky residue or harsh chemical odors. Approved surfaces for use include cultivation tools, trays, tanks, irrigation equipment, greenhouse equipment, propagation trays, grow shelves, and other hard, non-porous surfaces when used as directed.

Eric Kemp, Chief Technology Officer at Modern Canna, highlighted that the product addresses common operational challenges where sanitation protocols exist on paper but are difficult for teams to implement consistently due to product characteristics like strong smells or complex dilution steps. CannaGuard PRO’s design aims to reduce this friction, supporting consistent SOP compliance.

Implications for Cannabis and Hemp Operators

For operators working with Modern Canna, this investment provides access to a vetted, integrated sanitation solution supported by the same organization managing their broader quality program. This allows operators to adopt CannaGuard PRO with confidence, bypassing independent product evaluation processes.

For the wider cannabis and hemp industry, this partnership indicates a focus on proactive quality systems rather than reactive responses to test results. Modern Canna aims to assist operators in establishing these systems from the ground up, integrating sanitation as a foundational component of overall product quality and regulatory compliance.
